Determining
Hat Size
In order to determine your Bailey Hat size, please measure the
circumference of your head at the point where you normally wear your hat
(a little above the ears); use a soft tape measure and get a friend to do
it for you, as it is hard to do it yourself. Then please check the
following chart below (or click the inset image located up and to the
left) to determine your hat size:

Hat
Care, Wear and Etiquette
Following are some hat care, wear and etiquette tips for your Hat
-
When putting on or taking off your hat, always handle the
hat with four fingers on the front and back of the brim just next to
the crown. This process will help keep the crown clean and the shape
neat and crisp as it was when new.
-
Make sure your hands are clean when donning or doffing,
especially with the lighter colors such as Pecan or Silver Belly. When
you wash you hands, you wash off not only dirt and grease, but also
oils that are found naturally on the skin.
-
When not on your head, your hat should be placed upside
down on the crown. This step is vital to aid in keeping the brim shape
and set as it was when originally steamed and shaped for you.
-
When your felt hat gets dusty and needs a good freshening,
you can simply dust it off using a hat brush, small plastic sponge or
whisk broom Use caution when utilizing a whisk broom.
-
A hat should never be bothered by rain or snow, except in
some cases of acid rain. A rain hat cover can prevent the hat from
getting wet, however a good fur felt hat gets better and gains character
with age.
-
If liquid -- such as a soda water or alcoholic beverage --
gets onto your felt hat, the best prescription is to rinse it under a
cool water faucet. Run the water in a light stream over the affected
area while rubbing gently with the tip of your index finger. This
should only take a minute. Remember, this step is to be done before
the stains are dry. When finished with this step, let the hat dry
naturally -- do not use a heat source, such as a hair dryer, which can
cause shrinkage.
-
Keeping a Hat dust-free will extend its life. Dust and dirt
can settle into the tiny crevices of the crown and brim and rub
against the felt fibers. It definitely shortens the life of a good hat
to let dust work its way into the hat.
-
Ideally,
your cowboy hat should be worn sort of level on your head
and about 1/2" above your ears. However, we recommend your hat
however you wish.
-
The hat should fit snugly around your head but not so that
it hurts of gives you a headache.
-
A Gentleman should always remove his hat indoors when a
secure place is provided to hang or leave it (and always remove his
hat in an elevator when a lady is present). He should tip his hat to a
lady when greeting or passing her; if being introduced for the first
time, the gentleman should remove his hat completely. A gentleman
should always take his hat off in a restaurant unless there is no
table service or a proper place to hang or check the hat has not been
provided.
